EMAIL CHANGE
Ok, while I've had the same email address for 6 years...it is going to
change. I just don't know what too. If my current email address dies
before August 3rd, I will post my NEW email address on several locations
including:
Also, using this email address
will work, but It is doubtful I'll be good at responding. :)
Conker's Bad Fur Day & Godzilla reference
Novarix sent in an excellent summary of the ALIEN influence on this
Nintendo game....this is an excellent Alien
Reference if one every existed. :) So check it out. Also
clarified is the "Gojira VS Desutoria (1995)" reference
of "Aliens".

AFI top 100 movies...
A few nights ago the American Film
Institute had a TV show that detailed what they consider the 100
Most 'Thrilling' Movies. Naturally, there was a movie from the ALIEN
series mentioned. It was hosted by Harrison Ford and included a short
interview with Ridley Scott.
Here are the highlights, including other Ridley Scott (ALIEN) and James
Cameron (ALIENS) movies that made the rankings...
1. PSYCHOM
2. JAWS
3. THE EXORCIST
4. NORTH BY NORTHWEST
5. THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
6. ALIEN
25. TITANIC (1997)
42. THE TERMINATOR (1984)
74. BLADE RUNNER (1982)
76. THELMA & LOUISE (1991)
77. TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY (1991)
Interestingly, you can also pick your own favorites from the total 400
films nominated. The cool thing is that while ALIENS didn't make the
critics top 100, and made the peoples....ALIEN currently ranks 11th and ALIENS
is 13th overall.

ALIENS vs PREDATOR in the Hood? :)
Aliens vs Predator has an interesting fan. From Darkhorizons:
Sneak Peek just ran an interview with Director John Singleton about
his upcoming "Boyz in the Hood" sequel ["Baby Boy" ...]
Singleton also commented on what he's doing next including confirmation
that he'll write/produce/direct the adaptation of the Marvel comic
"Luke Cage", but also has a big wish to do the "Aliens vs. Predator"
film if it were ever to be made.

Aliens Alumni - Lance Henriksen
This appeared on Darkhorizons,
if I recall correctly. On Canadian Talk Show 'Vicky Gaberau Live'
Lance Henriksen was interviewed."Vicky Gabereau asked him about his
relationship with Chris Carter and it seems Lance "was very much looking
forward to shooting an upcoming feature film version of the show". [Millennium, which
ran for 3 seasons.] Henriksen also said he wouldn't ever do TV series work again due
to the gruelling schedule." Millennium is one of my favorite all-time tv shows,
so I can't wait for a movie!
James Cameron's next project?!
A Story on James Cameron was in the local paper today. I've retyped
the entire article, as it gave a few insights on Cameron's persona...and
hey, his representatives actually called a place a block from where I live...
lame of me to find that cool, but it is nifty when James is on the cover of the largest paper in the
city. :)
Titanic Director turns to U of C (University of Calgary) on Bismarck
Film
Robin Summerfield - The Calgary Herald
A pair of University of Calgary military history experts have caught the eye of one of Hollywood's
hottest directors made famous for his love of sunken ships.
Titanic director James Cameron has enslisted the help of acadmics Holger Herwig and David Bercuson,
co-authors of the yet-to-be released The Destruction of the Bismarck, to help him bring the story of
the sunken German warship to life.
The local pair were contacted late last month, out of the blue, to offer their expertise in
dissecting the Bismarck's history for Cameron's latest production, the Imax film Ocean Challenges,
currently being filmed in Germany.
The call came to Herwig's U of C office the morning of May 25th. By 2pm that same day a plane
ticket was bought and at 6pm, Herwig was getting across the Atlantic to Hamburg for a rendezvous
with the Titanic director. That turned into a four-day whirlwind tour that included interviews with
survivors of the Bismarch and its British pursuers.
"He was just tapping my knowledge of the event, of the ship and my ability to get him the plans, the
materials out of the archives and of course my expertise in German and to be able to talk to these
people."
It is a bit of a mysteryhow Cameron found out about the pair's research, said Herwig, whow as
nevertheless thrilled by the phone call to join the director in Germany. "I was star-struck in many
ways," sia dhte 59 year old.
Urgency in getting to Germany quickly was key for Herwig, as both British and German survivors of
the historic sinking of the ship were marking the 60th anniversary at the Bismarch Estate in
Friedrichsruh two days later.
During the four-day trip, Herwig interviewed survivors on camera for the production, served as
translator for the German seamen and gained access to the ship's plans from German military archives
for Cameron, who didnt' have the academic credentials to get them on his own.
Herwig, he embarrassingly admits, wasn't sure at first who Cameron was. He also said he's only seen
on of his movies, Terminator, before meeting the director in Germany. "I'm not a great moviegoer I
have to admit, but my son said, 'Aliens, Terminator, Titanic,' and then I figured out who it was."
said Herwig.
Working with the director, who has a reputation of being difficult, was an exercise in how to get
things done quickly and done right, added Herwig. "He's an incredibly powerful, intense
personality. He knows exactly what he wants to do, how he want's to do it and you know you're in the
presence of someone very professional."
Bercuson's part in the whole picture has not yet come into focus. Production officials have
indicated he will be invited to join Cameron and Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of Jacques Cousteau for
the dive to the wrekage located 300 miles southwest of the southren tip of Ireland on Sept. 22 to
27. Bercuson hopes to hear from Cameron's production company next week for the official
invitiation. While the prospect of diving 15,000 feet under the water to the wreckage below,
"scares the living daylights out of me," said Bercuson, "there's not way I'm going to miss that
opportunity." Neither Herwig, nor Bercuson will be paid for ther services but preferred to do the
work as a "favour" that will may lead to further work and exporsure for their research in the
future, said Herwig.
The Bismarck was the thorn in the Allies' side during the Second World
War. Her mission was to cut off the supply route from the United States to Great Britian. The
German ship eventually sank.

NEW Nostromo Computer Windows Theme
"Kurtz" Morales has created an excellent theme for
Windows based on the Nostromo's computer, "MOTHER". It contains
some great sounds and a background image just so you can feel
like you're operating the rather well-connected computer yourself.
Just go to the Extra Goodies, and
then to Windows theme...and download away! It is well worth it.
Great thanks to "Kurtz". :)
Quick Trivia...
Matt S. reports that "Ferro" is Latin for "To Carry".
Ferro is the name of the dropship pilot in ALIENS...
so I guess that works out. :)
ALIENS Fan Fiction...New!
Chuck Sellner has
contributed a brand new ALIEN
fan fiction story. It the Aliens against the Alien Legion.
Alien Legion was a great comic book series in the 80's, best

theme from elements from previous Legion stories.
So Read the Story and check out

ALIENS: The Deluxe Edition
Some reviews are popping up for the newly released ALIENS:
The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack.
Cinemusic has a nice review (4.5 out of 5), and also check out
their Contest,
yes...it is too late to enter but It has a nic prize. :)
You can buy the new soundtrack by
Clicking Here.
I quite enjoy the soundtrack, it has all from the original cd release
and about half an hour more, with 10 unreleased tracks, and 5 bonus
tracks. Very good liner notes, detailing where the music should be
heard in the film. It was nice to hear the track 'Facehuggers',
and even 'Newt's Horror'...' I'd give it a 5 out of 5, definatly for
James Horner and ALIENS fans. :)

heard in the movie, except "Priva Son D'Ogni Conforto" from Handel

A special note deserves the beautiful piece "I'm a stranger here

RCA Victor release.

ALIEN Reference in Conkers...
In the Nintendo game 'Conkers Bad Fur Day', one of the evil guys is an Alien! Not just a spoof, but
a really nice replica of the beast. To combat it, you wear a yellow exo-skeleton (sound familiar?),

The 6th day uses ALIEN 3 technology...
CINEFEX magazine, issue #85 (April
2001) does a profile of the Arnold Schwarzenegger Film "The 6th Day." In
it, is this:
The ADI hero puppet - accompanied on set by mechanical designer Seth Hays
- was capable of full facial articulation, inlcding eye movement and
blinking action, jaw movement and lip articulation. the latter used a
computer-controlled synchronized playback system developed by ADI for the
android Bishop puppet in AILEN 3. "We preprogrammed the dialogue so
li-zync could be actuated on set with the touch of a button," said
Woodruff, "but all the other aspects of her perforamce were puppeteered
live. That allowed for some very good interaction between the doll and
the actors in the scene, which was important. Too mcuh preprogrammed
action can destroy spontaneity."
Tom Woodruff was part of
Amalgamated Dynamics, who did the puppet-alien (and Bishop!) effects
for ALIEN 3. [I thought it was neat, anyway.] :)

POLISH Alien Info...
Thanks to Tomexx,
he passed along a few neat tidbits of the ALIEN Release in Poland.
The odd picture you see on the right is actually the Polish release
poster for the Film ("Alien: The 8th Passenger of the Nostromo"). Click

release poster, not the French one as the
IMDB states.
Tomexx comments: "It was printed in a low quality paper...
in artistic "value" is in my opinion very original."
Another quick Trivia tidbit: Tomexx also reports
that the Polish ALIEN premiere was on August 21st, 1980...well over
a year after the North American debut.

ALIEN 3 - 16th overall!
Well, while reading Boxofficeguru I came up on a dubious
distinction for Alien 3! It holds the 16th largest May opening of all time, in North American Box
Office gross, at 23.1 million (over the memorial day weekend waaay back in 1992.) While only 16th,
in 1992 that would gave it 4th spot overall.) It also has the 2nd lowest total box office gross in
the top 20.

More Sigourney Article
And there was a good Article on Sigourney Weaver in the local paper a few
weeks ago. Since I can't find an electronic reproduction, below
I typed it in! All of Weaver's comments are in
yellow. She says a few neat things on Aliens
vs. Predator...
Weaver Back on Top After Alien Abduction
Jamie Portman - Calgary Herald
The news hit the Hollywood trade media a few weeks ago: Sigourney Weaver
had yielded to a salary offer so huge she couldn't refuse it and had
agreed to reprise the role of Ripley, the intrepid monster-fighter, for a
fifth Alien movie.
"If only that were true!" sighs Weaver. But
it seems the report had no basis in fact. "People
are coming up to me and syaing: 'Hey, ther'es going to an Alien Five!'
and i'm saying, 'Hey, didn't you read the retraction?'"
So does that mean there will never be another Alien movie? Weaver wont'
go that far, but she says if another one does happen, she won't
necessarily be involved, unless it meets her standards.
She knows when she starred in the first Alien for director Ridley Scott
back in 1979, her career received a major shot in the arm. The downside
was she risked being trapped in Ripley's identity, especially after the
release of two successful sequels - James Cameron's 1986 Aliens and
David Fincher's 1992 Alien 3. In fact, she was releived when the third
film effectively killed her off.
But in response to a public demand, Fox invoved the miracle of DNA to
bring a restored Ripley to the screen in the 1997 Alien Resurrection.
Despite the fact Weaver has demonstrated her versatility as an actress
both on stage and screen, she remains indelibly identified with this
character.
As a result, studio brass have to be constantly reminded of Weaver's
talents in other fields - for example, comedy. Weaver says MGM needed a
lot of persuading before it cast her as a resourceful con artist in the
current hit, Heartbreakers. What finally convinced the studio was her
recent science fiction spoof Galaxy Quest.
Weaver received a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination 13 years ao
for her comic performance in Working Girl, but until Galaxy Quest came
along she had done nothing else in this genre. When she was offered
Heartbreakers, she felt she "had died and gone to
heaven because it was the kind of role I'd been trying to get in
Hollywood ever since the alien things started throwing people
off."
Still, she will always be greatful to the Alien movies. She also believes
the films represented a quality franchise, one she doesn't want to see
devalued. She was shocked to learn several years ago Fox was
contemplating creating an "Alien Versus Predator" movie.
"That I don't want to be in. That's why I died in
the first place, because I heard they were going to do exactly
that." Weaver, 51, hasn't slammed the door on an Alien Five. But,
she warns, "all the elements have to be right. If
we did another one, I would want it to be smaller and more
character-driven."

Have A Job To Do isn't on the CD and is replaced by Sub-Level 3. Alien
Attack is an 18-second cue which I have no idea what it is scored for.

ALIENS: The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack!
Yes, in my first update in over a week, some GREAT news! Varese Sarabande has decided to release an
ALIENS: The Deluxe Edition Original Motion Picture Soundtrack!
It is due for release on May 1st (quick!), and you can Click Here to read their official writeup.
From Varese's site:
This official soundtrack for the recently released Twentieth Century Fox
Special Edition of
James Cameron's Aliens features nearly twice as much music than its original release!
Before Titanic there was one epic collaboration between director James Cameron and composer James
Horner.
For this Deluxe Edition of James Horner's apocalyptic score we have restored every note the composer
wrote for this massive symphonic assault. Horner's Aliens has always been among his most acclaimed
scores and for fans of both the film and the score, we have gone all out. Included are extensions to
cues formally only presented in edited form … even in the film! Over a dozen cues appear for the
first time ever! The entire score has not only been digitally remastered but fully remixed to
optimize its sonic power. This 75-minute CD is the ultimate Aliens companion!
While likely released in response to the bootlegs, it is fantastic to see this official release come
to light. :) Thanks to Pollock for the email. :)
Well, I've finished my last university exam. Time to get a job! (and update the website more! ;)
I'll also respond to all emails within the next two days, and I'll even provide an update. :)

Alien 5 - Weaver *finally* commits!
Darn! I've been out-scooped! Well, even though I missed it, this site does have it...
Sigourney Weaver has finally confirmed that Alien 5 is definatly on her schedule for a late 2003
release. She commented on the script, which has more 'female' aliens [Nathan's Note: Possibly
similar to the female predators?], and the movie will have a more feminine aspect to the
story.
This is straight from the source! To read it all, click here.
Predator 2 (movie) info
Rumour du jour: A few entertainment sites have mentioned this, and it looks like that ALIENS vs
PREDATOR is getting a 2nd chance. In fact, they have already pre-cast the characters, and ya' won't
believe who they got for the lead female role...I hope all of you are fans of Winona Ryder....just

Ok, it looks like for the next few weeks I'll be updating every few
days...maybe a few times a week. I also saw 'Heartbreakers' starring
Sigourney Weaver; it was alright, but ran a little long. (15 minutes could
have been chopped.) I give it a 7/10, Ray Liotta and Weaver were great.
:) Oh, make sure you scroll down to the end of this news update for some
great tidbits on Aliens vs Predator 2!
Academy Awards...
From the Bladezone.com Blade Runner
Email update:
The Academy Awards have come and gone and Ridley Scott had to leave
without the coveted Oscar statue for Best Director, however Scott's film
"Gladiator" did win in a number of other categories including Best
Picture, Best Actor (Russell Crowe), Costume Design, Best Sound, and Best
Visual Effects. In fact "Gladiator" won the most awards . . . five Oscars
in all while "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Traffic" both won four.
One of the best moments was when a very surprised Russell Crowe accepted
his Best Actor award, saying "I owe it all to one bloke . . . Ridley
Scott."
Academy Awards & Ridley...
[Hicks sends this summary] Ridley Scott now has a Best Picture to
add to his resume, while sadly he didn't win best director (that went to
Soderbergh) his film "Gladiator" raked in 5 including Best Actor (Crowe)
and Best Picture. Also, the film got introduced by Sigourney Weaver, who
commented that she had been lucky enough to work with Ridley twice. (Alien
& 1492:Conquest of Paradise.) Also, during a pre-show she was
interviewed, and her previous connection to Scott with "Alien" Was
mentioned. Winona Ryder introduced the 'best song' candidate Bjork, and gushed about her quite well.
She looked quite different, with longer blond hair than her 'Call' Alien
Resurrection getup.
Yet more Academy Awards!
The always well spoken and well dressed Sigourney Weaver is up for a few
polls
For being the 'best dressed presenter.' Click
Here for the 'style' poll, and what was she wearing? Well, she was in
John Galliano for Christian Dior. No, I didn't know that, I went to This
website, which also noted "Sigourney Weaver went for full-on
flower power in a curvaceous couture gown by John Galliano for Christian
Dior."
Cinescape Top 25 Sci-Fi
The "Special Collectors Issue" of Cinescape magazine (vol. 7 no.3) has
just hit the newsstand listing the 25 Best Science Fiction Movies of all
time. Ridley Scott made a few appearances:
1. The Day the Earth Stood Still -- 2. A Clockwork Orange -- 3. 2001 --
4. The Empire Strikes Back
5.Close Encounters -- 6. Planet of the Apes -- 7. Blade Runner -- 8. The

ALIENS gameboy game emulated
"Aliens: Thanatos Encounter" for Game Boy Color was recently released, and

ALIENS vs PREDATOR 2 'World
Exclusive
Okay, okay, so I don't have the world exclusive, but the May issue
of Computer Games does. As chestburster reports:
"The 8 page article features new conceptual art that I haven't seen
(Predator Alien Hybrid, 2 pictures of that
plant/pod creature that were in the tech demo, and 2
new different Marines) and many new screen shots featuring the
three main species, powerloaders and vehicles, weapons and tools, marine
and predator visual perspectives, indoor and outdoor environments and
more.
This is the most detailed and informative preview yet. A side article
about the Lithtech 3.0 engine states that AvP 2 will not be using
Monilith's lastest gaming engine despite what the person playing the AvP
demo says in that movie clip I told you about.
Oh one last cool thing about the article -- It briefly mentioned Aliens:
Colonial Marines for the PS2 but it also mentioned
that there would be another Alien related game that was yet to be
announced.
The magazine was $7.99 US ($8.99 CAN)
There's also a concept picture of ... get this ... a
female predator. In one of the Dark Horse Aliens/Predator comic
series, female Predators were supposedly larger than their male counter
parts. However, this concept art
depicted a slim female predator similar to human females."
Momentous
thanks to Chestburster!
A Quote from the AVP2 article
Here is a quote from This
artice,
One of these wide-open areas--a distinctly
alien-looking land, filled with undulating plant life--was shown to
dramatic effect. Towering hills could be seen on the horizon, and the
bizarre plants and ambient creatures on the planet were plentiful and
lifelike.
Another much more familiar-looking area was also shown: A dark,
dimly lit corridor, straight out of the Aliens film. As with the
outdoor area, this setting looked distinctly realistic.
I can't wait!

Sigourney Weaver : Quote of the day
A few days ago on Access Hollywood (who got it from ABC's Primetime),
Sigourney Weaver was the 'winner' of the "Quote of the Day". This was
also picked up by some news services. It isn't really Alien related, but
still funny. Here it is (a little edited):
"The most embarrassing moment of my life was...I saw
someone who looked a lot like Tom Cruise buying something," So she
let out a scream. "And he turned around and it was
Tom Cruise. And I was already known then. I mean I had made a
film." And she screamed again. "I ran out.
I was so embarrassed," said Weaver, who
starred as Ripley in the four Alien movies.
Alien 3 gets free press
A cable movie channel is using a small clip of Alien 3 to promote its
action/sci-fi specialty movie channel. It is the scene where the Alien
'kisses' Ripley. (Ok, so it is a short shot...but anything with Alien 3 is
fine in my books!
Alien-ish music hits new TV ads
The new film 'Enemy at the Gates' has a few Alien music connections. Some
some ads are using Immediate Music's "Code Red" (from the Alien
Resurrection trailer), Chestburster points out that Jame's Horner's score
for Aliens is also being used in one of the film's TV commercials.
Another Alien connection: Ron Perlman (Johner in Alien 4) has a small
role, and James Horner actually did the music to the film. [Thanks
chestburster!]
Alien 5 gets more press.
Will the rumour never die? As Dave from Belfast reports:
A local ( UK ) horror mag called Shivers ran the following article this
month; "SIGOURNEY FOR ALIEN 5" It ran as follows: "More than 20 years
after the first Alien sci-fi epic shocked audiences around the
world, lead actress Sigourney Weaver has agreed to a $25 million deal to
play Ripley for a fifth time. The new episode will be set on earth for the
first time and will be released in 2004, the 25th anniversary of the
original. " I've always wanted to do one where we go back to the planet
where the alien originally came from or even earth" , Weaver remarked
about her decision to reprise her most famous role. The 51 year old
actress will also be executive producer on Alien 5 to be written by Buffy
The Vampire Slayer creator
Joss Whedon. Well, any Alien 5 news is good news! Thanks to Dave.
Reebok and Aliens
The new image on the Main Page is a reebok add,
for its new 'Aliens Fighter Shoe', which Ripley wore in Aliens. While Alienscollection.com has a
picture of an advert with just the shoes (check it out), this is the first
ad that I've seen that features Ripley. Reebok had a promotional thing
going on with Aliens...I wonder if any of those shoes ot produced?

TV Guide Ranks Chestburster
Hicks found an interesting tidbit: "T.V.
Guide just published an issue covering the 50 greatest moments in
movie history...the classic dinner scene from "Alien" came in at #41 with
this text";
"Alien"
The Gut Buster 1979 / Starts @ 0:54
We knew something was coming, we just didn't know what. That
face-hugging alien critter on John Hurt's mug couldn't have just vanished,
but who expected it to reenter the movie in such a heart-shattering way?
Filmed in one take and mostly ad-libbed, the messy mess-hall sequence
from Ridley Scott's deep-space scarefest shattered the claustrophobic
tension among the Nostromo crew (including Sigourney Weaver in her
first lead role) and introduced us to the grisliest parasite ever. When
you see this scene again, keep an eye on Ian Holm's character as Hurt
starts hurting: His subtle expression suggests that he isn't surprised by
the uninvited dinner guest.

SkyFoxch8 reminded me

Leno [I missed it! Ahh!] And if you missed it too, just surf on over

at the Alien 5 rumours and the supposed millions of dollars. Thanks to
SkyFox. :)
Weaver Chat - and EMAIL fox!
Leah passed on this info: "Sigourney Weaver just participated in a yahoo
chat
room and someone asked her about Alien 5. She said
she was under the impression that there wasn't
much interest among fans in an Alien 5, and she said that if people want
to see one, they should email Fox online---so, I thought it
couldn't hurt to get the word out.
Email foxmovies@fox.com
and maybe if they get a barrage of emails requesting an Alien 5, they will
pay attention! [Leah notes: Reading between the lines, I would say she
sounds quite interested in doing another one if the money (and script) are
right.] The preview for the chat describes Weaver... "Her breakthrough
role came in 1979 with Lieutenant Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott's Alien.
She reprised the role twice, with Aliens in 1986 (garnering her first
Oscar nomination) and Aliens3 in 1992." No, they didn't really forget
Alien Resurrection -- She was 'Ripley 8', not Ripley. ;)
Check out the Photo
Gallery of Weaver as well.
Hicks and Johner still on TV
D.J.Owen pointed out that Both Michael Biehn and Ron Perlman are currently
starring in the TV
series The Magnificent Seven (Sunday afternoons on ITV in the UK, don't
know US). Keep your eyes peeled for air dates in North America.

Weaver Comments on Alien
5...again!
This is from an Interview conducted by Cindy Perlman, and you can read it
by Clicking
Here. I've cut and pasted. Full credit to them...I cut some stuff
out. (Weaver's comments are in Orange) :)
"Honestly, I think Ripley should crash-land the
spaceship in Paris right next to the Eiffel Tower," Sigourney
Weaver says of a possible fifth Alien film. "My idea
is that everyone at this very expensive French restaurant hears a big
boom. They look up and see this dripping alien creature get out of a
spaceship and then they shrug and go back to eating their meals because,
hey, the French are so unaffected by everything." [Nathan's
Note: Weaver speaks french fluently, and helped director J.P.Jeunet on
the set of Alien 4]
Hey, it could happen. After all, the last Alien flick - Alien Resurrection
- ended with Ripley headed toward Earth. But Weaver says battling aliens
on terra firma really doesn't interest her one bit. "Don't you remember when the Star Trek people came to
Earth? It was like, 'Ugh,'" the actress says. "How do you get past the basic plot where all the humans
are going, 'Ohhh, ahhh, ehhh-aliens!'"
But a few quibbles about the plot doesn't mean Weaver refuses to play
Ripley one more time. "I sort of left her in an
interesting place and I want to see what happens next. There's a cool
Jekyll and Hyde thing going on inside her, and I'm not sure who will win,"
she says, alluding to the fact that in Alien Resurrection her
character was half-human, half-alien.
Weaver adds that she won't "rush into anything until
we have a great script." It's unclear whether 20th Century Fox has
such a script in development at the moment. But if it does, Ripley could
return. "I don't think another sequel is a bad
thing," Weaver says. "Nowadays, I think
there's a whole generation of moviegoers who think of these movies
as episodes in a long adventure. And I don't think this adventure is
completely finished."
As for her price-tag for returning…well, maybe it's the producers who will
feel something burning in their chests. "They could
easily bribe and cajole me to do another for $50 million," Weaver
jokes. At least, we think she's joking.
I completely agree with what Weaver said about having the Aliens
on Earth!

Sigourney and Joss Whedon on Alien 5, and the
SCRIPT!
Sigourney spoke to Tvguide about the
Alien 5 rumours, and revealed a few MORE tidbits (Weavers comments in
orange, Whedon is in yellow.):
Sigourney Weaver was bouncing off the walls at news that she would pocket
a record $25 million for going another round with those jaw-dropping
slimebuckets in a fifth Alien flick. If only it were true! "The amount was thrilling," she tells TV Guide
Online. "I'm supporting my husband's [Manhattan]
theater, so he was thrilled that he was going to be able to sign up for
another five-year lease."
It's not just the amount of her paycheck that Weaver's disputing ("I would have to kill a few people to get that
salary," she laughs). The Oscar-nominated actress insists that
there are no "immediate plans" to do Alien 5. "As far
as I know, there is no truth to any of it," she says of British
tabloid reports, which surfaced last month. "My
agents both called me and said, 'This is in the paper,' and I said, 'You
gotta be kidding me!'"
That's not to say that Weaver - who plays a con artist opposite Jennifer
Love Hewitt in the comedy Heartbreakers (opening March 23) - would rule
out reprising her role as E.T. exterminator Ellen Ripley. "I think if we ever did another Alien, I would prefer that
it be on a much smaller, sort of character-driven level," she
admits. "If I were more enterprising and less lazy,
maybe I would come up with something that would be good. I don't feel it
is quite finished."
Incidentally, Weaver confirms that an Alien 5 script featuring a
plot that brings the series down to Earth does in fact
exist. "I have never read it, and I have
never asked to read it," she says. "I think
[20th Century Fox's] plan is to make it Alien vs. Predator, and I would
just as soon not be in that, although I am sure I could whip them
both."
Well, also contrary to reports, said script was not authored by Buffy the
Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, who penned the last installment,
1997's Alien Resurrection. "There is not one shred of
truth to it," he tells TV Guide Online. "I
have no idea where [the rumor] came from. I'll tell you there was a time
when I would have been interested in that, but I am not interested in
making somebody else's franchise anymore. Any movie I make will be created
by me."
- Michael Ausiello with Angel Cohn
So this confirms a few points; that there IS an Alien 5 script that Weaver
knows of, and that FOX has had plans for an Aliens vs Predator. It is
always nice to hear Weaver speak, as she can really set the record
straight while also fanning the flames for Alien talk.
Whedon mentioned that he didn't know where the rumour came from that he
was scripting Alien 5...well, he must forget that several interviews where
he mentioned he would likely be writing, and that FOX film production
preseident Tim Rothman also said he'd write the next one. Short term
memory I guess [click here].
That reminds me...what is the story behind
This "Alien 5"
script? The rumour that I got (thanks to Drew) was that this was
written by Terry Hayes before he was brought on the 'Planet of the Apes'
remake.
Canadian Alien 3: The Gun sighting
GGSTU passed on this nugget of info a
WHILE
ago, but I only recently read it (shame on me). He spotted the Alien 3:
The Gun game at Paramount Canada's Wonderland (in Southern Ontario,
Canada). His comments: "It can be two player and
each player has a M41a pulse rifle!!" Thanks GGSTU! (It has
been added to the Trivia section. Also, Mark L.
reports "Ripley looked like Ripley for
once" in
the ALIENS arcade game, which he found at Niagara Falls, and right around
the falls, kind of underground there's the arcade game. [Thanks Mark!]
The Metamorphosis of Alien 3
The fan magazine Cashiers Du
Cinemart wrote a great article on Alien 3 in issue no. 12. It takes a
look at the growth of Alien 3, from early script conception to what it
ended up; and provides a great summary of each script stage, including who
was introduced, and plot points. It is quite helpful when one doesn't
want to read the Eric Red script (trust me.) It also goes through some
points on scripts, the comics, and thoughts on what went wrong. Go to
their
website and get yourself
the magazine. For more information on the cut scenes from Alien 3, go to
the Cut-Scenes area of this website, or of course

on the Hollywood Walk of fame.
Congraduations! Now people can walk all over his name! Winston is the

for
Another 5 years. Their first collaboration started with ALIENS in 1985.

Comedy with fantasy interests. For more details (and a better list of

Cameron issued a statement on the deal, saying, "I've had a 16-year

Ridley Scott - Alien mention
As Ridley is up for an Academy Award, there are inevitably some news
stories on him. In Issue #583/584 of Entertainment Weekly, the profile
the Oscar nominees, and this is what they said on Ridley Scott (who is up
for Best Director):
After Ridley Scott created dystopian sci-fi worlds of Alien and Blade
Runner, it felt like every director unable to compose his own visual
poetry of the future simply plagiarized Scotts'. He defined the way we
look to the future; now, with Gladiator, the 63-year-old British director
[...] has us all rethinking the way we look at the past. I enjoy myself most when I'm creating worlds, whether
they're period or science fiction" Says Scott. [...] Scott dared to
rattle the genre as he had with his science-fiction films 20 years
earlier.
Later on, a retrospective article on Spartacus was titled '
Blade Runners.'

ALIEN mentioned on ER
One of the most popular shows in North America had a nice ALIEN
reference.
In the beginning of ER, Dr. Elizabeth Corday (who is pregnant) remarked
that
she couldn't help but think of ALIEN, and that the baby would burst from
her stomach. I'll get the actual quote when the episode repeats (I
couldn't
scribble it down fast enough!)
Top ALIEN web site closing down...

content and (IMHO) design. Best of luck to Chestburster, and thanks

Dourif tidbit
Brad Dourif has another connection to the ALIEN series,
beyond playing Dr. Gediman in Alien Resurrection. As Hicks
points out: In the book "Legion" (Which already has an
Alien Reference), in the film version
("Exorcist III") Brad Dourif's the voice of the Gemini Killer.

The FULL Weaver Quote
Most of the news sites managed to skip the last sentence
when quoting Sigourney Weaver's denial of the ALIEN 5 movie.
Well since it is ALIEN related...I'll post the whole thing!
While talking to Syndicated columnist Liz Smith, Sigourney said
"I was interested to read that I was
doing it for a phenomenal amount of money. Unfortunately, it
wasn't true. At least the sum. And I haven't really talked to
Fox about making another. People come up to me on the street
saying 'Hey, Alien 5! Great, when's it gonna happen?' And I go,
'Wait, wait, wait a minute!'".
Thanks for clearing that up Sigourney! Notice that the only
'real' denial was the monetary terms?
Alien prop pictures
If you have way to much money, why not buy some overpriced ALIEN props?
At the very least surf over to Bedlum.net
and look at the pictures. Up for grabs (all prices in US dollars)
are Weaver's Flame Thrower ($10,700), Alien Creature ($35,000), John

Chimps do Alien
How is this for an Alien spoof? A William reports:
" On the TBS Network, they used to air little movie parodies
using apes (like chimpanzees and orangutans) to fill in gaps
between shows. Anyhow, one of these 'Monkeyed Movies' was an
'Alien' parody. It basically had some monkeys standing around
a table with another monkey laying on the table with a facehugger
attached to his face. The other monkeys are poking at it, and
one pokes it with a knife (I think) and it squirts purple goo on
the floor. The monkey reaches to touch it, and the others warn
him not to. He does it anyway, then sticks his finger in his
mouth and tells the others that it's just grape jelly.
Then it switches to the dinner scene, with all the monkeys are eating.
The
monkey that had the facehugger on him begins moaning and groaning,
and climbs up on the table. He starts thrashing around and his
stomach expands, and then he passes major gas, lets out a sigh
and comments on how it was just gas while the other monkeys are all
holding their noses and complaining."
[Big thanks to William!]

Weaver denies Alien 5
Mr Showbiz posted a message grabbed
from Access Hollywood, where Sigourney Weaver told them:
"I was interested to read that I was doing
[a fifth film] for a phenomenal amount of money. Unfortunately, it wasn't
true. At least the sum. And I haven't really talked to Fox about making
another." She said that she believes that undoubtedly there is a
screenplay for the fifth Alien film "laying around" somewhere at Fox, but
that all systems, at this point, are not go.
The suspect story originated in London's Sunday Express. But look on the
bright side, Weaver officially commented on ALIEN 5! :-)
I'm back in town, so I'll try to respond to emails / update the site
tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for visiting :)

Entertainment Weekly ranks DVDs
I just found this: In the January 19th, 2001 issue of Entertainment Weekly
(issue #578), they have a large section devoted to the 'top 50 DVDs.' No
ALIEN movie made that list...but the entire series made the 'Top 10 Boxed
Sets' list, at #2 (behind Toy Story.) This is their writeup:
The ALIEN LEGACY #2 (1979-1997, Fox,
$109.98)
This sci-fi saga has evolved much like its titular beasties: It began with
a haunted-ship terror flick, reached its peak with a a balls-out war
movie, took a side step into prison drama, and concluded with a
Frankenstein-like medical horror. Each twist gets a first-class
treatment here, but the gold star goes to ALIENS, which boasts more than
17 minutes of scenes that James CAmeron never should've cut. Choice Cut: On the ALIEN disc, you can access the
personnel files of the NOSTROMO's crew, which gives tantalizing glimpses
of backgrounds we'd otherwise never see.

Director lookout
As David J. Owen remarks, David Fincher has a cameo in 'Being John
Malkovich.' He plays a film critic called Christopher Bing.
(The director of 'Malkovich' is Spike Jonze, he also appears in Fincher's
flick "The Game" as an ambulance dude.)
More Trivia
Martin H. passed along some more trivia,
including what some writing is on Marine's armour/shirts...(more to come)
That was all I was able to finish up today, I have more but that'll just
have to wait until I sleep. But one last thing, some of the auctions for
ALIEN props is over (the ones listed at the Current page), and here is the summary:
ICONS M-41A Pusle Rifle: $788
Aliens Marine Helmet (signed): $379.99
Aliens Prop Grenade: $51
[And my favorite...] ALIENS Facehugger prop: $1,000!

Alien 5 reported...
Major news wire 'Reuters' picked up a story orignally run in an English
tabloid, the Sunday Express. (Click
here to read it on Yahoo) It reports that Sigourney Weaver has signed
a
deal for 15 million pounds (about 23 million US dollars) to revive her
role of Ripley, and Joss Whedon (of Alien Resurrection fame) will
write.
A quote from Weaver "I've always wanted
to do one where we go back to the planet from where the alien orignally
came or even get to Earth"
Well, the quote is correct, but it is from December of 1999! It was
actually posted on this webpage and on Corona, and I beleive that Joss Whedon
has no intention of crossing lines with the Alien series ever again...
but hey, it *is* ALIEN news, even if it is false. Maybe now there will be
some official comments! (Thanks to Bob and alienscollection.com.) The
rest of the quote from 1999 is But it's never been
a serious discussion." "I don't know that there are any plans to do
another one. It wouldn't surprise me if some time in the next
20 years or so, you see a white-haired Ripley hobbling around
out there. But I haven't heard of anything."
'BETTY' model
photographs
You can now get a set of high resolution photographs fo the orignal model
and prop of the starship 'Betty' used in Alien Resurrection. This could
be a great help to all those modelers and artists...just click here to go to the
website for more information.
Alien Resurrection Premiere pics
The Internet Movie Database has a page full of pictures from the

The $64,000 question...
Being an ALIEN fan pays off. On tonight's episode of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire', The following
question was posed:
In the 1979 movie "Alien", what is the name of Ripley's spaceship?
a) Nostromo b) Dark Star
c) Pequod d)Nautilus
The woman got it wrong...she guessed 'C' when it is clearly 'A'. It pays to be an Alien fan.
[Technically, the ship isn't Ripley's but Weyland-Yutani's, and she isn't the commanding
officer...so it isn't really 'her' spaceship...yes, I'm an Alien geek.]
Christie on TV
Want to see Gary Dourdan (Christie in Alien
Resurrection) more? No worries, just tune into C.S.I. (Crime Scene Investigation) every week on TV.

Another quick update on Alien alumni: Ron
Perlman has at least 6 productions being released in the next few years, including the lead in
'Hellboy' as..."Hellboy". Mike Mignola wrote Hellboy, and he also provided art for the Alien series
'Salvation.' Perlman will also be seen in "Enemy at the Gates" and "Blade 2."
Operation: Aliens!

Golden Globes & comments...
Some Alien Alumni grabbed some awards during the Golden Globes. Ridley
Scott's "Gladiator" won for best picture, and Jerry Goldsmith won for
best soundtrack from the same movie. (Of course, y'all know they teamed
up for ALIEN.) Thanks to Hicks for the info.
Sigourney Weaver had a comment on the upcoming screen writers guild
strike, which is due to hit Hollywood fairly shortly (a few months I
think.) She says: "Whatever happens,
happens. You know, everyone's prepared for it...you know,
might as well happen." She sounded much better than that...I
was scribbling it down quickly while it was on Extra or Entertainment
Tonight. She was *very* well dressed in the clip. The woman has style!

The COMPLETE ALIENS COMPANION isn't DEAD!
Posted at 4pm
Straight from the author Paul Sammon, the book 'The Complete Aliens Companion'
is far from obliterated. In an interview with
Bladezone, he comments on
Ridley Scott,
Blade Runner, and the ALIEN book:
"Basically, The Complete Aliens takes the same approach I used with
Future
Noir[:The Making of Blade Runner]. Except that this time I examine all four
Alien films, not just one Blade Runner. And if people liked the appendices in
Future
Noir (laughs) well, if you think there was a lot of supplemental material at
the end of "Future Noir", wait’ll you see The Complete Aliens!
It has ten appendices! I list every goddamn Alien garage kit, every Xenomorph model,
all the books and magazine articles, each Alien-related
soundtrack...
it’s been crazy, uncovering all that information!
...I’ve been working on it for almost five years! [....]
I’m hoping it finally will come out sometime next year, in 2001."
The interview at Bladezone is pretty big,
but a very good one, all about Sammon's book,
Future
Noir, and his experiences relating to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. But hey, do
you just want to read the ALIEN related bits? No worries! Just
for the quick & dirty 'Alien related' summary, which is still fairly large! It is informative,
and Sammon shares some thoughts about what he thinks about the Alien series (Which
are quite similar to what many think...he is clearly an Alien fan! :)
In my opinion, Future Noir is the 'bible' of Blade Runner,
so If he can duplicate that on the Alien series book...wow!
Pulse Rifle Movie

surf on over to Alienscollection.com
for that (and more!)
David Fincer Fanpage
A new David Fincher webpage has popped up...just surf to
Davidfincher.cjb.net
and lets hope some ALIEN 3 material shows up. :)
Wrath of Horner
If you've heard the "unreleased" Aliens soundtrack clip
"Preparing for the Drop", you may have heard it before. James
Horner has a knack for re-using some of his music in other films
which he scores. For example, a piece used on Aliens (the opening
sequence) can be heard in 'Patriot Games.' Now, if you watch
STAR TREK: The Wrath of Khan, listen near the beginning when the
crew is gathering for the newly refitted Enterprise and they come
in to the space dock. The music plays as the camera pans over the
ship. Also, the music is also used during the Khan confrontations
and battle engagements. Thanks to Laga Mahesa!

Alien Music article
An interesting review of the music used for the Alien series, titled "The Music of the Alien Saga -
nailing an atmosphere" has been written and put up at the Celluloid tunes website. As the title implies, it looks
at the different composers and films, and how the atmosphere of the film is reflected in its music.
It is a good read. :) For a direct link click

Another year...
Another year on the nedstat counter has come and gone, and these are the results:

Total 2000 visits: 63,292

I didn't get any hate emails in the past year! Also, I think nedstat slightly understates the
number of visitors, my other counter lists the visits at 198,956. So the 200,000th visitor will be
viewing the site next week! Neato. (At least I think it is neat. :)

Long time, no update! I just haven't been able to get to the computer lately. Ok,

It's confirmed, David Fincher will be helming
'Rendezvous with Rama'
as soon as he is finished 'The Panic Room.' This film will also be
digitally animated! Go to the Official Site
to look at some great conception art. Want to see some TV commercials that
Fincher directed? Then head on over to
DavidFincher.net and
check a bunch of them out. Ian Holm and Brad Dourif are appearing in
Lord of the Rings, and the new
teaser trailer was released on Friday. The official website is quite
well done as well.
David Twohy (ex-alien 3 writer) is also set to direct 'Demon With A Glass Hand',
which was written by Harlan Ellison, who at one time sued James Cameron for using this story (and
another one) as an influence for 'The Terminator', without his credit.
Blade 2 to be like Aliens?
It appears that CHUD reviewed the script
to the upcoming 'Blade 2: Bloodhunt' film, and mentioned this "You can almost liken parts of
the Blade 2 script I read...to another successful second edition of a franchise, Aliens."
New Site listing...
LinksInOrbit.com has

Sigourney Weaver on 'Inside the Actor's Studio'
I've had this info for a while too. Huge thanks go to Tonyman for sending this in.
This info will also go to the ALIEN Trivia area.
Nathan, Sigourney was on the "Bravo" Channel show "The Actor's Studio."
The Alien info I got was the following:
1) Sigourney was supposed to be nude during the final sequence of
"Alien." The Alien was supposed to be curious about her nude form. This sequence
was not filmed due to time/budget constraints. It was the last day of shooting and
the orders were to finish the filming by that day.
2) As a CO-producer of "Alien3" she agreed with the decision to kill
"Ripley." She thought it was cruel to keep bringing the character out of
hypersleep, just to have to face mortal danger again.
3) She retold the story of her responses to Ridley Scott when she was
being interviewed for the part of Ripley. The casting director kept trying to
get her to shut up, so she wouldn't blow the audition.
4) Sigourney also said that Ridley Scott hid the Alien on the set
during the Shuttle scene. She was flipping buttons to prepare the shuttle for
her to go to hypersleep when the Alien's hand suddenly shot out. She said it
caused her to jump back a few feet. She did not indicate whether this was
filmed or not.
Again, huge thanks to Tonyman!
Narcissus Correction
Also on the Trivia area is some info on the
name 'Narcissus'. It has been modified, thanks to Hemant J. Naidu.
Narcissism is loving one's self, that is, being infatuated with one's self.
Loving one's mother is based on the "Oedipus Rex" syndrome. It is the
myth of the boy who killed his father so he could marry his mother.
Also added to the Trivia was another Location of the 'Alien 3: The Gun'
game, in a place named 'Sandy Balls' in Coventry (England]. And also
listed is a way to get 99 credits...[Thanks to Keaun Hackman!]

Aliens comic guru comments on AvsP
Make Richardson, who publishes Dark Horse comics, had a few
comments on the Aliens vs Predator series being made for the big-screen:
"We`d love to see that movie made, and there`s still a possibility that it
can be made." For a wee bit more surf over to Cinescape. But why not read the whole article by clicking here!
It is a very good interview, and Richardson shares a lot of his thoughts on the comic industry (as
well as commenting on Alien 3) "Unfortunately, with the Aliens franchise,
the third movie really alienated many Aliens fans. It wasn`t that it was a bad movie; it just wasn`t
true to the intent of the movie that preceded it, which was a very heroic story of
courage in the face of insurmountable odds."

more alien-related news!]

Weaver on old SNL
For all Canadians (or those who get the Comedy Network tv channel), The Comedy Netowork will be
re-airing the 1986 Saturday Night Live episode which Sigourney hosted, on MONDAY, January 8th. This
is right after the success of ALIENS, and they spoof it a bit when they kill E.T. No joke. Watch
it!
Website notes...
The new image on the Index page shows Lance Henriksen as "Bishop 2" in
Alien 3. Notice the great shot of the Weyland Yutani bio-weapons dudes? :) This is from a German
lobby card for the film.
On monday I'm back in school -wrapping up- my university days. I'm behind on emails (again!) so if
you expect a response I hope to get back to everyone on sunday. I'll try to post some more neato

ALIEN movie marathon

AVP movie
Aliens vs predator movie news? No, but there are some rumours (very, very false rumours),
but read 'em all Planetavp or

sites!
Homicidal maniac Aliens references
Hicks passed along a few Alien references from
"Johnny The Homicidal Maniac" comic book. Just go to the
references section to check it all out. :) Thanks to hicks!
Other wee bits:
Hicks also mentioned that Brad Dourif (Gediman from ALIEN Resurrection),
foray into "Lord of the Rings" won't be his first time as a literary
villain's sidekick. Dourif can also be seen in the 1984 movie
version of "Dune" as a sneaky assassin (named Piter Devries)
for the enemies (after reading the book I realized that, like Grima
Wormtounge (In LOTR), this was another character he was practically made for.)
DUNE was recently 'redone' for the Sci-Fi channel in the US, and was broadcast
on the Space Channel in Canada...if the interest in the new versions rise then
maybe Dourif's profile will be raised. :)
Alien 5 script segment?
Of course, take with a HUGE grain of salt, but Andy alerted me
to a small tidbit of script that reports to be an oppening scene
for ALIEN 5 (written by Terry Hayes before he got onboard the
Planet of the Apes remake.)
to read it. More on this rumour: "The heading on the fax copy was
supposed to be Fox Australia. Does this mean a5 will be shot in Oz?"
While I don't doubt that Alien 5 can be shoot in Australia...don't take
this script as the real thing.
