Aliens Cut Scenes
|
James Cameron made several edits to ALIENS before the theatrical debut
in order to comply with running-time restrictions. James has little regrets,
and has stated that he still appreciates FOX for keeping his film at over 2 hours
running time. With the restraints several sub-plots were excised, including
Hadley's Hope, the Sentry Guns, and the mother/ daughter relationship with Newt.
A total of 17 minutes were cut. A 'TV' edition was created for CBS in the late 1980's,
and included several of these subplots.
The 'Special Edition' of ALIENS can be found in its entirety in the recent 2003 DVD release.

The following is a list/transcript of the scenes, in order as they would have appeared
in the film.
*
An added sequence with the Inquest....;
VanLeuwen: "It is
the finding of this court of inquiry that warrant officer E. Ripley,
NLC14472, has acted with questionable judgement...and is unfit to hold
an ICC license as a commercial flight officer. Said license is hereby
suspended indefinitely. Now, no criminal charges will be filed against
you at this time, and you are released on your own recognizance for a
6-month period of psychometric probation; to include monthly review by
an ICC psychiatric technician. These procedings are closed."
[The Special Edition then
it cuts to the "File status : Closed" screen shot.]
(40 seconds)
*
A major sequence involves the Colony. The Camera pans down on a sign
stating "Hadley's Hope" (which is the colony on LV426). A cool rover
car goes by, and then we are inside the colony. "Hal" and "Lydecker"
have a conversation. Please

(over 5 minutes)

Just before the inquest, Ripley and Burke partake in a conversation....
this exerpt from the script has been modified by myself...;
[ Ripley sits on a bench in what we now SEE is an ATRIUM off
the medical center. Burke ENTERS in his usual mode, casual haste.]
Burke: Sorry...I've been running behind all
morning.
Ripley: Is there any word about my
daughter?
Burke: I really think we should worry about
the hearing now, because we dn't have a lot of time, ok? I've read
your deposition, and it's great. If you just stick to that, I think
we'll be fine. The thing to remember is, there are going to be alot of
heavyweights in there. You've got the feds, interstellar commerce commission,
colonial administration, insurance company guys....
Ripley: Do you have any news about my daughter?
Burke: Well, we did come up with some
information. Why don't we sit down? I was hoping to wait until after the
inquest...
[Burke takes out a digitized picture out of his breifcase]
Burke (Looking at picture): Amanda Ripley-McClaren.
Married name, I guess. Age 66...and that was at the time of her death, which
was two years ago...(silently) I'm sorry.
[Ripley studies the PHOTOGRAPH, stunned. The face of a woman in her
mid-sixties. It could be anybody (actually, in real life it
was Sigourney Weaver's mother.) She tries to reconcile the face with the
little girl she once knew.]
Ripley (silently): Amy.
Burke: She was cremated and interred at
Parkside Repository, Little Chute, Wisconsin. No children...
Ripley (visibly shaken): I promised her I'd
be home for her birthday.(breaking down) Her
eleventh birthday.
(1 minute, 58 seconds)
* Burke explains his interest....
[In Ripley's apartment with Gorman]
Ripley: Why are you going?
Burke: The Corporation co-financed that
colony along with the colonial administration. We're getting into a
lot of terraformaing now, and "Building Better Worlds."
Ripley: Yeah, yeah, I saw that commercial.
(12 seconds)
*
Before the opening of the Sulaco's cryosleep chambers, there
is a long establishing shot through the Sulaco (similar to in Alien with
the Nostromo.) It pans througout the ships' sets.
(1 minute, 40 seconds)
*
Hudson brags to Ripley....;
Hudson: I am ready man! Ready to get it on!
(misc. cheers of marines) Check it out. I am
the ultimate bad-ass! State of the badass art. You do not want to fuck
with me. Check it out. (Turns to Ripley) Hey
Ripley, don't worry. Me and my squad of ultimate badasses will protect you.
(Misc. cheers of marines) Check it out...
Independently targetting particle-beam phalanz. Vvvwaap!! Fry half a city
with this puppy. We got tactical smart missles, phased plasma pulse rifles,
RPGs. We got sonic electronic ballbreakers!...we got nukes, got knives,
..sharp sticks
Apone: Knock it off Hudson.
(50 seconds)
*
Ripley pauses before entering the Colony....;
Hudson (through radio): Sir, we got the CPU
online. No problem.
Gorman: Good. Stand by in Operations. Okay,
lets go.
[Ripley pauses before going up the ramp into the complex. Hicks
turns to Ripley.]
Hicks: Are you alright?
Ripley: Yes.
[They then enter the complex.]
(1 minute)
*
Hudson and vasquez have a false alarm...;
[While seaching the complex, the motion tracker goes off. Hudson
motions towards Vasquez, and they both go towards a door. This
scene is mixed with a few shots of Ripley and Gorman in the APC.]
Hudson (whispering to Vasquez): It's
right fucking in there!
[Hudson kicks open a door, and Vasquez follows. They stop toward
toward another door...]
Hudson: Now!
Vasquez: NOW!
[The door is kicked open...]
Hudson: Hwaaaaaaaaa!
[And inside there are just several hamsters in a play-set.]
Vasquez (sarcastic): Good one.
Hudson (radio to Gorman): Uhhh Sir, uhh we
have a negative situation here..umm..moving on.
(48 seconds)
*
[Hicks explains his find...this occurs right after Newt puts
on Hudson's helmet.]
Hicks: The good news, we got 4 of these
robot sentrys. With display and scanners intact.
(softer to Ripley) They really kick ass...I
think they can come in handy.
(12 seconds)
*
[Hudson and Vasquez arming Sentry Guns and activiation.]
[Hicks looks up at some screens, which are the monitor closed
circut video camera's looking over the complex. He then looks down
and flips up 2 laptop monitors. He starts to type; arming the
sentry guns.]
Hudson: Do your thing baby.
(To Vasquez) Come on, come-on Vasquez, lets
get the hell out of here.
[Hudson and Vasquez back up behind the Sentry Guns]
Hudson (radio to Hicks): Hudson here, A and B Sentrys are in
place and keyed.
Hicks: Roger, standby arming now.
[Computer screen shows that sentrys are now armed....]
Hicks: Test it Hudson!
Hudson (to Vasquez): Do it!
Vasquez: Fire in the hole!
[Vasquez hurls a large metal barrel in front of the Sentry Guns]
[BUDDABUDDABUDDABUDDABUDDABUDDA!!!! The guns blow away the barrel]
Hudson: Ok lets get the hell out of here!
[Hudson and Vasquez back up behind the Sentries, behind the door]
Hudson (radio to Hicks): We're sealing the
tunnels. (Looks at door closing) Come on baby..
(40 seconds)
*
There is a panning shot showing the Sentry Guns
whirring and scanning the corridors.
(12 seconds)
*
Newt learns about biology....;
[This occurs within the scene of Ripley putting Newt to sleep.
Newt: Isn't that how babies come? I mean
people babies? They grow inside you...
Ripley: No, that's very different.
Newt: Did you ever have a baby?
Ripley: Yes I did. I had a little girl.
Newt: Where is she??
Ripley: She's gone.
Newt: You mean dead.
(22 seconds)
*
The birds and the bees...
[When Ripley et al are in med-lab discussing the situation...]
Hudson: Maybe it's like an anthive...
Vasquez: Bees man, bees have hives.
Hudson: You know what I mean. There's
like one female that runs the whole show.
Bishop: Yes. The Queen.
Hudson: Yah the Mama. She's badass man,
I mean big!
Vasquez: This things ain't ants stupido...
Hudson (annoyed): I know that...
(28 seconds)
*
Sentry Gun scene 1. (Service tunnel)
[An Alarm sounds. Ripley runs to the monitor area to Hicks.]
Hudson: What is it? Whats going on?!
Hicks: There coming.
Hudson: Where?
Hicks: In the Tunnel. Here we go...
[Hicks looks down, and there are the two laptops. They are showing
information about the sentry guns, including the ammo counters...]
Hicks: A & B gun tracking and firing.
Multiple targets.
[There are clips of the Sentry Guns, blasting and firing away madly.]
Hudson (amazed): Look at those ammo counters go...
Hicks: B guns down 50 percent.
[More clips of the Sentry Guns, and the rapidly depleting ammo counters...]
Hudson: Man, its a shooting gallery down there!
Hicks: 60 rounds left on B. 40...20...B gun's
dry, 20 on A. 10...5... (Looks to Ripley) That's it.
Hudson: Jesus. They're wall to wall in there.
[Thump. Thump. Thump. A bumping sound is heard resonating in the room.]
Ripley: They're at the pressure door.
Hudson: Man, listen to that...
[It then cuts to the theatrical release of Bishop radioing in "I'm afraid
I have some bad news...."]
(1 minute, 15 seconds)
*
Sentry Gun scene 2. (the retreat)
[The Sentry Guns C and D are shown, blasting at anything that moves.]
Hicks: This is unbelievable! 20 meters
and closing. 15....
Ripley: How many?!
Hicks: Can't tell. Lots...
[Shows the monitors of the sentry gun's gaurded hallway.]
Hicks: D gun's down 50% C gun's right
behind it.
[Great shots of the Sentry Guns firing]
Hudson: It ain't stopping them.
This ain't stopping them!
[The guns continue to fire. Aliens get shredded.]
Hicks: 150 rounds on D.
Hudson: Come on baby! Come-on Come-on!
[More shots of the ammo counters dropping, and the Guns a 'blazing!]
Hicks: D gun's down to 20....10.
(the counter drops to zero) Dammit!
[Hicks lifts up his gun..]
Ripley: Wait! They're retreating.
[The Sentry guns are shown, smoking and ever waiting for a target.]
Ripley: The Guns stopped them.
Hicks: You're right...
[The ammo screen shows 10 bullets left.]
Hicks: Next time they walk right up and knock.
Ripley: Yeah, but they don't know that. They're
probably looking for other ways to get in......that'll take them awhile.
Hudson: Maybe we got them demoralized.
Vasquez (to Hudson): Shut up!
[It then cuts to the theatrical edition where Hicks orders Vasquez and
Hudson to do the perimeter.]
(1 minute, 26 seconds)
*
[Ripley turns to Hicks before going down to the Sub levels to
see the queen and get Newt]
Ripley: See you Hicks.
Hicks: Dwayne. It's Dwayne.
Ripley: Ellen.
Hicks: Don't be gone long Ellen.
(20 seconds)
*
There was a scene filmed, (that supposedly was shown theatricaly
on the premier,) that has Ripley putting on her Reebok shoes. This
is in the infirmary with Newt. Reebok promoted the film and its shoes,
through adverts such as this one, and through
mini-posters of the shoes in an ALIENS setting (see alienscollection.com for
picture of the poster.)
*
The most famous cut-cut-scene is the Burke Cocoon. This was also
filmed. Originally, When Ripley goes down to Sub-level 3 to
search for Newt, she finds Burke cocooned against a wall. Burke
pleads with Ripley to kill him, instead, she hands him a grenade.
This was cut for pacing, and its implausability; as it would
be too soon for Burke to be cocooned (in regards to the ALIEN
biology stated in the previous film.)

ALIENS Unfilmed Cut-Scenes
|
Many scenes were not filmed that were in the script. However, some
of these scripted parts are much more interesting than others, and
have gained more 'notoriety.'
*
In the script, Gorman gets stung by the ALIENS tail. This occurs
instead of the canisters from the APC's roof falling on his head.
From the script:
Something lands on the roof with a metallic clang.
Gorman has plastered himself against a wall, as far
from the door as possible. A latch lever behind his
head turns. The small hatch against which he was
leaning is ripped away and SOMETHING snatches him out
the opening He disappears to the waist with a shriek,
legs kicking. The alien clings to the roof, pulling
him out. Its tail whips over, scorpionlike, and
buries a four inch stinger in Gorman's shoulder.
Hicks grabs a joy stick at the FIRE-CONTROL CONSOLE
and turns it rapidly. On the roof the alien looks up
as servo-motors whir. A remote control turret cannon,
a 20mm chain-gun, swivels toward it in a curt arc.
VOOM. The creature is blasted off the vehicle's
armored back and tumbles away. Gorman, slumped
unconscious, is dragged back inside.
